La vista desde mi cubículo en la oficina después de los días de lluvia la semana pasada… Además una foto de la vista desde una de las salas de reunionens el mismo día. No es nada molesto trabajar con una vista así, ojalá durara un poco más que sólo una mañana…
I have finally sold the Yaris at a reasonable price, and bought a new car. The chosen one was a Nissan Tiida Sport. It costed a bit more that I had expected, but anyway, it’s a good car and it was paid all in cash.
I got it yesterday, and from the first moment I drove it, I loved it. It’s totally nice, soft and “runs” much more than the Yaris. And it’s bigger too.
The engine is a 1.6 that develops 107 hp and 153Nm of torque. The radio sounds pretty well and it has what in the publicity was called “Audio Car Theater”, with a touch screen of 7 inches, and it reads DVD and has a USB connection.
With this car I’ll be happy for a couple of years 
I’ve finished reading the fifth book of the Death Gate Cycle, called “The Hand of Chaos”, now comes “Into the Labyrinth”, where stuff get even more complex… I have only one book left of this series after this one, luckily I already have a new series of four books to read when I finish with this one. And I also have another series ready to be bought
Yes, since las monday there’s a new synupsoid in Chile. That’d be me.
This last monday I started working for Synopsys. This is an american company dedicated to the development of software for electronic design automation (uffff, that’s dense!!!). I’m part of the chilean team of Power Compiler, a sofware for power consumption optimisation (so, for example, make battery life longer).
The change from a small company to a big one is really noticeable. Upon entering on my first day at work, the secretary gave me my “happy box”, that consisted on a notebook, pens, whiteboard markers (for the personal whiteboard i have by my desk), stapler, post-it, scissors, clips and more, resuming, anything I would ever need for my work. Apart from that, my temp card to enter the office (in a couple of weeks I should have my card with name a picture on it). Then my desktop, I’m in a cubicle by the window with a nice north-west view. The desktop, as said, has it’s own whiteboard, three drawers to keep stuff in them and a cabinet above to keep more stuff. The computer is a dell with a core2-duo cpu (the standard is changing soon to core2-quad) with a 17” 4:3 monitor (strange, why aren’t they 19” wide???). I also have my own phone with my name on the display 
Well, the working tools are quite good and in general things work flawlessly.
This week I didn’t have much productive things to do, I was dedicated mostly to do all the administrative setup needed to start working. That includes, requesting access to the source codes, to SAP, to the internal synopsys network, token (as the ones banks give for online transactions) to acces the internal network from outside the office, etc… I also did some tutorials as training and started reading the user manuals of the project I’ll be working on. Finally, on friday I had my first productive intervention, solving a simple documentation STAR (synopsys technical action request)
The people are Synopsys is great and the working ambient is cool. During the next couple of weeks I’ll finish with my training and things will turn more intensive and interesting
Vendo mi Toyota Yaris Sport. Es del año 2007 y tiene 15.000 Kms.
Es casi full, sólo le falta el aire acondicionado. Tiene frenos ABS, airbags, alzavidrios eléctricos, cierre centralizado, espejos eléctricos y alarma. Además la radio no tiene los parlantes originales, sino que tiene 4, los de adelante son componentes.
And the day finally came when I’m unemployed. The day before yesterday was my last day working for Cursor. Well, it didn’t have much of work, I came to the office aroud 12, like every wednesday since I started teaching at the university. I was there about 30 minutes and we left for lunch. It was a nice and long lunch, the food was good, but the attention was a complete disaster (I’m not going ever again to the Eladio on Providencia corner Suecia).
After lunch there was a small Starcraft competition (after chuko let me start playing, because he didn’t stop asking me millions of questions about the project I was leading and now he’s leading) where Alex, me and our boss kicked Pame, Lucho and John’s asses. Then around 17.45 I had to run, because Chuko’s cousin got married and i was invited.
Now I have a week to do nothing – nothing means: go to the neurologist, prepare a lot of classes, go to the bank, go to the health insurrance, etc… -, rest and sleep until very late, something I really needed. I hope everything goes great in Cursor and that they are not too forced to work now. At least they’ll be able to “hear the silence”
Now I just have to thank everyone in Cursor for everything, it was truly a great experience, I learnt millions of things, I did new, challenging and entertaining things, and I never stopped having a great time at work, something really important.
I’ll miss you, but anyway, we’ll be in touch somehow.
